With the final just days away, and Lord Sugar on the cusp of choosing his new business partner, The Apprentice: Why I Fired Them offers a chance to look back on the candidates who fell before the final hurdle, and the tasks that tested them to the limit. From the impressive 'Desert Defeating Hair' campaign, to the bumper sale of million pound properties, this year's candidates have moved from great highs to jaw dropping lows. Facing the first ever zero orders for health snacks, and not forgetting the DIY disaster of painting over their client's shop sign, this year's challenges have had humour, heartache but also some outstanding performances. Helped by previously unseen insights from the eagle eyed Karren Brady and Claude Littner, Lord Sugar leads us through the best and worst decisions made by this year's bunch of candidates. He looks back on the boardroom bust ups, and explains how he came to his decisions on who would hear the words 'You're Fired!'.

Series 11, Episode 11 – “Interviews”
The battle to become Lord Sugar's business partner is nearing the end, as the remaining few candidates have 24 hours to brush up on their business plans and face the formidable interview process. It's time to get a grilling from four of Lord Sugar's trusted advisors, Claude Littner, Claudine Collins, Mike Soutar and new addition Linda Plant. The next day, plans in hand, it's off to one of London's highest offices, the spectacular Leadenhall Building in the Square Mile. Lord Sugar explains that his advisors will be scrutinising their businesses and credentials, before feeding back to him so he can make his decision on who may go forward into the final. There are familiar faces, but also some surprises for the candidates, as they take turns in the spotlight, and try their hardest to impress. One by one the Final Five are called in to face the music with Lord Sugar's unremitting mentors. Armed with CVs and business plans, the advisors show no mercy as plans are punished and characters questioned. For one candidate it's a brutal bout as their bubble is burst leading to shattered dreams. In the boardroom, it's excitement for some as Lord Sugar selects his favoured finalists. For others it's game over and farewell to the £250,000, as they reach the end of the road and hear the words 'You're Fired', for one last time.

Lord Sugar summons the remaining candidates to the London Aquatic Centre, where he gives them the task of creating and producing a new health food, before pitching their idea to three major retailers. The teams have two days to invent an original snack, build a brand, and then achieve orders from leading figures in the industry. One team tries to impress with rejuvenating superfood snack bars, while the other opts for vegetable crisps. But there is nowhere for the candidates to hide as chaos ensues, with confusion over recipes, last-minute mistakes, and painful pitches to industry experts, before Lord Sugar announces a shock result.

The stakes are raised as Lord Sugar summons the eight remaining candidates to Southbank Tower and gives them the task of acting as estate agents. The entrepreneurs have two days to sell mid-range and high-end properties to London's most discerning buyers, with the team that makes the most sales and commission winning the task. One team uses their charm to win over clients, while the other fails to strike a big deal with their over-familiar approach. For some candidates, capitalising on London's property market comes easily, but for others it is a nightmare as they finish empty-handed, having failed to secure any deals.

The contestants are summoned to the V&A Museum of Childhood, where Lord Sugar instructs them to become party planners. The teams have two days to set up and host a children's party for some high-spending clients, giving them the challenge of keeping an eye on profits and dealing with demanding customers. For one team, a massive oversight threatens the success of the task, and one member risks spoiling the birthday girl's day by attempting to keep a tight rein on the budget. On the other team, the entrepreneurs' efforts miss the mark with a lacklustre assault course, a mix up over the birthday cake, and a blunder with the party gifts.

The candidates travel to a south London builder's yard, where Lord Sugar challenges them to set up and run a handyman business with the winning team generating the most money. Armed with a van full of tools, the entrepreneurs set off to find business across London, offering cleaning, gardening and DIY services to their clients. One team takes on a job at a local football club, but one candidate takes professionalism to the limit, while the other group attempts a refurbishment at a theatre, however they slip up when simple measurements are done wrong. As the task progresses, the contestants face DIY disasters, miscalculated quotes, mistakes, and dissatisfied customers, before Lord Sugar makes two unprecedented moves in the boardroom.

Series 11, Episode 05 – “CHILDREN'S BOOK5”
The entrepreneurs are summoned to the London Library in St James's Square, where Lord Sugar gives them the task of writing and designing a children's book. They must also record an accompanying CD, before going on to sell the product to London's bookshops. For one candidate it is the perfect task, but one team struggles to meet deadlines and the other has a disagreement in the recording studio on how to perform their story. When it comes to selling their masterpieces, one group resorts to dropping their prices in a bid to shift their stock and the other is unsettled by a mistake in front of industry experts. Both teams find it difficult to get sales, and the task comes to a head when another candidate is fired in the boardroom.

Series 11, Episode 04 – “PET SHOW”
The contestants are instructed to tap into one of the UK's biggest markets, with the task of choosing products for pet lovers and selling them at the London Pet Show. Faced with an array of products, including hi-vis jackets for chickens, the entrepreneurs adopt very different tactics to seal the deal with the vendors. However, the task looks set to unravel when one team finds it difficult to shift a range of cat-focused products, and the other team's distracted project manager struggles to corral the customers.
