Season 72, Episode 08 –
Can fairgoers in Oswestry get a handle on Caroline Hawley’s mystery metal object? It’s heavy, looks like a big spoon and would have been handy on a winter’s night years ago! Meanwhile, two teams of friends go antiques-shopping with their experts Lesley Kiddell-Spencer and Colin Young at Oswestry Showground. In blue, Lucy and Ruth have jewellery and ceramics on their list. Their opponents in red are cricket fans Ash and Anil, who each have a different approach to negotiation.

With an hour on the clock, the red team spots a tiny teapot with enamelled fish on it, but the price doesn’t float their boat. Meanwhile, with the blues, Ruth hopes for a ‘wheely’ good deal on a vintage folding bike. Then it’s up to Stockport for the sale with auctioneer Tom Blackmore, where both Lesley and Colin surprise the teams with their bonus buys.

Season 72, Episode 06 –
They say an army marches on its stomach, but as Eric Knowles finds out, a soldier’s diet has changed a lot over the years. In this episode from Warwickshire, Eric meets retired Lt Col John Rice from the Fusilier Museum to learn about British Army rations over the past two centuries. One of John’s earliest examples is a box of chocolates issued by Queen Victoria for troops in the Boer War – and the chocolate is still edible. Less edible is a hardtack biscuit from World War I, which lacked flavour and had to be washed down with plenty of tea!

Marching to victory at Stoneleigh antiques fair are two teams of families. In red are dad and daughter Dave and Aby, helped by their expert Caroline Hawley. On the blue team, Tim Weeks guides mum and daughter Julie and Rebecca. From the off, Tim is aiming high – with a huge tin-plated giraffe – but it would blow their budget! The reds spot a vesta case on a silver chain, but it doesn’t fire their imaginations.

In Derby, the teams hope to light up the saleroom with their items, but can auctioneer James Lewis stoke the bidders’ interest?

Roo Irvine opens the door on a remarkable collection of doll’s houses spanning more than 150 years. In Newport, Pembrokeshire, she meets centenarian Val Ripley, who with her late sister Pam amassed some 40 houses, furnishing them with items bought with their pocket money or made from scratch. Val received her first doll’s house as an eight-year-old in 1932 and now has examples from the style of the 1840s right up to the year 2000. In nearby Narberth, two teams of shoppers scour the aisles of a huge antiques centre to find three bargains to sell at auction. In red are married couple Mej and Aly, guided by their expert, Welshman Richard Madley. On the blue team, it’s mum and daughter Ceri and Rhian, with their expert Izzie Balmer. The reds are quick to add items to their back burner, but the buys are harder to come by. Meanwhile, the blues are on the case of something quirky and soon spot a vintage military trunk. All shopped up, the teams travel to Carmarthen in the hope that auctioneer Ian Taylor can hammer out some profits for them. Will either Richard or Izzie help to clinch a win with their bonus buys?

Coached by antiques experts Kate Bliss and Gary Pe, the former players scour the stalls at Shepton Mallet antiques fair to find three items to sell at auction in Wiltshire. Will the teams be as good at shopping under pressure as they are on the pitch? Christina also meets former England rugby captain Gill Burns MBE, who fought tirelessly in the 1980s and 1990s to level the playing field for women. She shares some of her personal collection of rugby trophies, shirts and memorabilia.
